Join us for a GRAMMY U Behind the Scenes visit to Dave Smith Instruments’ new HQ in North Beach with a presentation and Q&A with the man himself. Dave Smith created the Prophet-5, the world’s first microprocessor-based musical instrument and programmable synth, which set the standard for all synth designs that have followed. Dave is also generally known as the driving force behind the generation of the MIDI specification in 1981; in fact, he coined the acronym. Dave is a Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and has had a long career developing digital projects for several notable companies before starting DSI and the design of new hardware instruments including the Evolver, Poly Evolver, and Prophet ’08 synths.
