Common Makes Time For GRAMMY U

             On August 4, a select group of GRAMMY U students from the Washington, D.C. Chapter attended an exclusive Meet and Greet with the GRAMMY Award winning rapper, Common, before his performance at the 2012 Summer Spirit Festival at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. Common was amongst a great line up of performers that  included Eric Roberson, the Chuck Brown Band, Estelle, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and GRAMMY Nominated and Award winning singer Erykah Badu.

            Common was very open and shared great insight when answering the questions that the GRAMMY U students presented to him. One of the most important messages regarding the industry was: “Never become contrived trying to please a label; instead, be true to who you are and the music will come naturally and will be more authentic.”

            After the Meet and Greet Common stuck around and took pictures with the students. GRAMMY U was very appreciative for the opportunity to experience Common and the other acts performing at the Summer Spirit Fest with free tickets provided by CD Enterprises. This event is just another example that proves GRAMMY U membership has its benefits.
