The Memphis Chapter and the Producers and Engineers Wing hosted In the Mix: The P&E Wing Comes to New Orleans on Tuesday, November 17 at Piety Street Studios in New Orleans. About 50 producers, engineers and studio owners from across Louisiana were in attendance. The evening opened with networking and studio tours, as well as some good soul food provided by Cajun Moon Catering.

Once we all gathered in the large tracking room, I had the pleasure of welcoming everyone, thanking our sponsors and describing the local work of the Academy, the purpose of our meeting and introducing our guest speakers.

Maureen Droney, Sr. Executive Director of the P&E Wing, was our first of two guest speakers. She spoke of the work that the P&E Wing is doing with regard to initiatives such as developing a system that properly credits people involved in recording projects and supporting the performance rights legislation that could affect producers and engineers.

Sherri McConnell, Executive Director of the Louisiana Office of Entertainment Industry Development, was our second guest speaker. She highlighted the state agency’s tax incentive programs and how they can have a positive impact on the recording industry in Louisiana. She also talked about various marketing initiatives her office coordinates, including the “Only in Louisiana” luncheon that is held in Los Angeles the day before the GRAMMY Awards ceremony.

The event’s goal was to offer programming specifically for the local recording community. It was great to have studio people from across the state in the same room, sharing stories and making new friends. The event was a huge success and we have already seen increased membership as a result.

Special thanks go out to our hosts: John Fischbach, Mark Bingham, Shawn Hall and Wesley Fontenot of Piety Street Studios. Special thanks also to our sponsors Jim Odom and Ron Koliha at PreSonus and Sherri McConnell and Lynn Ourso at the Louisiana Office of Entertainment Industry Development
