GRAMMY U members from the Atlanta Chapter were invited to attend a GRAMMY SoundCheck with indie country/folk rock musician, Corey Smith, at The Classic Center in Athens, Ga. Nineteen students had the opportunity to interact and engage with Corey Smith and also sit in the audience while he and his band conducted their sound check. Following the actual sound check portion of the event, Smith answered questions presented to him by the moderators and the GRAMMY U members. The moderators were Summer Lutz and Cartter Fontaine, the University of Georgia GRAMMY U campus representatives. Smith touched on his daily activities, how he manages his time between his family and music, his song writing process, and any other questions that were asked. Specifically, he was asked “How do you manage your time with your family, while you are on tour?,” “Do you get stage fright?,” “How do you decide what song to record after you’ve written so many?,” “What do you do to prepare for a live show?,” “What advice would you give to those pursuing the music industry, as a musician or as someone on the business side?,” etc.    Following the Q&A session, Smith took photos with the members and with the staff. GRAMMY U students were grateful for the unique vantage point this SoundCheck created and enjoyed the opportunity to get Smith’s perspective on the industry.
