Anaheim - The 2012 NAMM Show
One of the best things about the annual NAMM Show is having the opportunity to meet so many Recording Academy members from across Chapters, as well as international music industry professionals (100,000 plus strong) from all aspects of the business. What we share in common is a real passion for the music business. Experiencing NAMM is akin to “going to Disneyland” for music makers; the event is the industry’s largest trade show in the world. Every major instrument company, piece of hot gear, the latest audio and computer technology (and more) is showcased. Guests can also attend an array of professional development seminars. A daily schedule of activities were available to attendees, and a variety of after-hours parties andevents were held around the convention area throughout the weekend.
The Los Angeles Chapter hosted its annual “Conversations With…” series with special guest appearances at The Recording Academy booth. Elected leaders from around the country gave their time to connect with the membershipand help to sign new Voting, Associate and GRAMMY U members. Guests visiting the booth seemed upbeat and optimistic about the future of the industry; everyone was eager to make connections and learn more about what The Recording Academy does the other 364 days of the year after the GRAMMY Awards. This year, the booth was at a high-traffic location in Hall C; the membership lounge area, with a velvet couch and leather seating cubes, gave the space a cool vibe.
Elected leaders who participated included: Percy Bady (Chicago Chapter Governor), Michael Bearden (LA Chapter Trustee), Mike Clink (LA Chapter Trustee), Qiana Conley (LA Chapter Governor), Mark Cross (LA Chapter Governor), Klaus Derendorf (LA Chapter Governor), David Helfant (LA Chapter Governor), Amy Keys (LA Chapter Governor), Brian Malouf (LA Chapter Governor), Cheryl Pawelski (LA Chapter Governor), Andrew Scheps (LA Chapter Governor), Nan Schwartz (LA Chapter Governor), Phil Soussan (LA Chapter Vice President), and Fred Vogler (LA Chapter Governor).
